Michelle Witte, Mansion Street Literary Management

I represent books for kids, both fiction and nonfiction, from board books up through young adult. My tastes are fairly eclectic, from light and funny to dark and creepy, and especially stories that veer off the beaten path.

Here’s a list of the kinds of things I’d love to find:

PICTURE BOOKS:
I created a visual list of picture books styles and tones I adore. You can find that at http://michellewittebooks.com/2015/06/the-books-with-the-pictures/

EARLY READER/CHAPTER BOOKS:
Funny (Wayside School series)
Clever (think Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary)
Early readers from author/illustrators (think Mo Willems)

MIDDLE GRADE:
Literary
Magical realism (think Kate DiCamillo)
Mystery/Suspense
Adventure
Fantasy
Historical (esp. from lesser-known culture or time period)
Contemporary realistic
Diverse stories and characters
Graphic novels
Anything with the flavor of Roald Dahl, Edward Gorey, Neil Gaiman, or Lemony Snicket

YOUNG ADULT:
Literary
Magical realism (think Sarah Addison Allen for teens)
Mystery/Suspense
Ghost stories
Fantasy/Sci-fi
Contemporary realistic
Diverse stories and characters

NONFICTION
Narrative nonfiction (Witches!: The Absolutely True Tale of Disaster in Salem)
History (esp. from lesser-known cultures)
Science/discovery
Children’s cookbooks
Activity/interactive books
