I’m interested in a variety of YA and adult fiction. In YA, I am interested in contemporary realistic fiction (such as study abroad experiences, strong female friendships, falling in love, anxiety and abuse), high fantasy (entirely new worlds) and soft fantasy (incorporation into our realities), gothic horror, and am currently in a Russian, Irish, and Scottish cultural phase. In adult fiction, I’m interested in WWI and WWII historical fiction, gothic horror, neo-Victorian mystery, and fantasy. I enjoy slower pacing in adult fiction (much like nineteenth-century literature), and it’s such a treat to find a contemporary gem that’s compelling and fascinating. I’m looking for a book that makes me weep – with joy from the thrill of first love; in fear of the monsters that haunt us each day; with awe from the deep emotional connection built between reader and protagonist. I want the protagonist to consume me – mind, body, and soul – within the first chapter.
