Children's / Middle Grade / MSWL Paragraphs / Picture Books / Young Adult

Katherine Harrison, Knopf BFYR/Penguin Random House

I’m seeking literary, character-driven middle grade and YA, plus the occasional picture book. It’s no exaggeration to say that voice has been the deciding factor in 100% of my acquisitions.

Here are a few things I’m looking for specifically: Humor (whether it’s a quirky MG romp or a sad YA contemporary that brings levity to a dark situation); Diversity (diverse characters or international settings); Fantasy (light and funny MG like Ella Enchanted or richly developed YA like The Queen of Attolia); Wilderness survival (if you can comp it to Hatchet, send it along!); Picture books that are either a) super funny or b) super artsy.

And here’s what I’m not looking for: Sci-fi/Dystopian; Sexed up fantasy/paranormal (Tamora Pierce is my limit) ; Cutesy picture books that are really aimed at the parent; Anything set in New York City.

I will respond to agented submissions only.
